The Conspiracy to Kill Martin Luther King Jr: Not a Theory But a Fact, According to Our Own Legal System by Ira Chernus / AlterNet

"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools." - Martin Luther King Jr.

Never would the general public expect that the government would be apart of the assasination of Martin Luther King Jr. We were always taught that only one man was responsible for his death. In Ira Chernus’s Alter Net article, “The Conspiracy to Kill Martin Luther King,” she explains how it's not just a conspiracy, but a fact that the U.S Gov. were involved in killing MLK. A reason that was suspected behind this was King’s plan to hold a Poor People’s Campaign. A campaign that would unite all ethnicities to fight for one thing, to get rid of poverty. That would mean the distribution of wealth among everyone. Of course those in power wouldn’t be in favor of this, they feared the loss of their money and wealth. One of the first things we learned in ESSJ was Divide and Control, a tactic that went back to Bacon’s Rebellion. When the enslaved African Americans and Indentured Servants joined forced against the elite, the rich feared their loss of power so they gave privileges to Indentured servants. This caused this rebellion to split up and keep the two groups separated. Without being united, the rebellion diminished and no longer stood as a threat to the top 3%. A group of people fighting for a shared cause despite their differences yet broken up by those in power, seems like history is repeating itself. Although this reason alone doesn’t entirely prove their reasons, it definitely makes sense knowing our history.
